Prof. V. Kanagarajan, is a science Graduate from Madras University, MIT’ian (P G Diploma, Aeronautical-1970) and an IIT’ian (Post Graduation in Aerospace Engineering-1972).
He has 45 years of Research and development experience in Aerospace Engineering including 10 years in Academic institutions;
He started his career in Jan 1973, as Scientist-B (Grade-I officer) & Scientist-in-charge of 0.3m Tri-sonic Wind tunnel, NAL, Bangalore, CSIR.
He stepped into the National Tri-sonic Aerodynamic Facilities (NTAF), as a Project leader, became Project Coordinator, Deputy-Head (M), Deputy Director, finally Head of NTAF Complex as Director Grade scientist and superannuated in March 2005.
He has specialised in theoretical & experimental aerodynamics, research problems in subsonic, transonic, supersonic & hypersonic speeds;
on high speed wind tunnels including facilities development, calibration & modernisation; design & development and data generation on scaled models of almost all Missiles,
Rockets / Launch vehicles & Aircraft configurations of the country such as Mig-21, Mig-29, Jaguar, LCA, PTA, HSLD, LGB, Trishule, NAG, AKASH, AGNI, PRITHVI, HSTDV/HRV, Rohini – variants, SLV-3, ASLV, PSLV, GSLV , SRE, RLV etc.
He was an expert member of Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review of most of the above programs of the country - DRDO, ISRO and ADA ;
Extensive studies on weapon integration on Mig21 and LCA with external stores; Aerodynamic software development, calibration and commissioning of 6 DOF Captive Trajectory Simulation System;
He was a DAAD scholar, and Visiting Scientist, DFVLR, Goettingen Germany and Indian representative of Supersonic Tunnel Association International (STAI), U S A for three years.
He has about 108 publications; national & International workshops; delivered about 40 Guest lectures (last 7 years) in several colleges and Universities as Chief Guest and motivated young minds. Recipient of NAL Award for outstanding (Group) performance; recipient of “LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT” and “Eminent MITian” awards/Citations. Co-Chairman of RAC - DRDO Board, Ministry of defense; Occupied the prestigious Prof K A V Pandalai Memorial AR&DB Chair in MIT, A U C (2007 – ‘15); Course instructor- Course coordinator for P G Courses; Mentor, Guide and Reviewer for U G and P G students, Design Projects, thesis work& Facilities development in MIT,AUC; Sustained collaboration with DLR, Goettingen, & RWTH University, Aachen Germany since 1985 /1990. Member of Board of studies in Universities Fellow of Aeronautical Society of India ; Former Chairman of Chennai Branch of the Aeronautical Society of India; presently Member of Academic Committee, syllabus committee and Governing Council of the Aeronautical Society of India; Felicitated and honored as an EMINENT AERODYNAMICIST (SAROD-2015 conference) at VSSC, Trivandrum in November 2015.
